Alas, the days of needing to go to a hair stylist - or even needing a comb - are long gone for me. I've been cutting my hair at home for years since I don't see the point in paying someone to cut what little I have left. I've used traditional clippers and they work well, but it's almost impossible to cut your own hair using regular clippers - you need someone to help, especially on the back of your head.
The Shortcut trimmer solves that problem perfectly. It's no harder to use than a brush. Just adjust the setting to the length you want, then move it slowly across your head.
It comes with two types of guides. One is for traditional hair cutting. The other is for shaving your head bald (or very, very close). You have to use the correct guide if you expect to get good results. The reviewer who had a problem with this clearly was using the incorrect guide. The manual explains this - always pays to take a minute to read the manual before using a product.
Very easy to clean. The blades are washable (although the unit itself is not) or you can just brush out the hair with the cleaning brush. Not too loud - about the same as a conventional hair clipper.
You get the best results if you cut just a bit at a time. For example, if you want to end up with 1/4 inch hair, start at the highest setting. After making a few passes , dial it down one notch. Repeat until you're at the length you want. Once you have your hair at the length you want, you can do a touch-up trim once a week to keep it at that length. Now that I have the hang of it, it takes me about 5 min to give myself a haircut.
It also has a trimmer for sideburns and around your ears. It cuts well, but it can be a bit unwieldy to use around the ears. I have a smaller trimmer that I use for that. The trimmer on the Shortcut does do a good job on sideburns.
So, with the caveat that you need to learn how to use it correctly, this is a fantastic product. Highly recommend.

If, for whatever reason, you want to avoid hairdressers and cut your own or your family's hair, then you will need more than one tool for the job. Clippers work well for longer hair and for the top of the head, but are very unsatisfactory for the back of the head and the neck. That's where the Short Cut comes in. You can now finish trimming that hair at the back, where the clippers left off. And very simple it is, too.
Of course, if you keep your hair all-over short, then you can use only the Short Cut and ditch the clippers. Just be careful to get the settings right, and only use the balding comb if you mean it. Be warned it comes fitted with the balding comb. Start with the lowest settings and cut gradually shorter if you want.
It is light and easy to use, especially as it is used cordless. The charge does not seem to last very long, but you can keep it plugged into the charger between uses, as it cannot overcharge. The `green' charging light looks very blue to me. That, and some other shaky prose, lead me to think that the manual for this made-in-China product was written by someone whose first language was not English. Nonetheless, read it carefully before using the Short Cut, because it contains some useful information.

I don't have a lot of hair, but what I have can quickly start to stick out in a distinctly unattractive Bozo-esque way if I don't keep it trimmed.
In the past, my wife would trim my hair, apparently one hair at a time, because it would take a long time and often involve either hair pulling (probably not intentional but one never knows), and one time the removal of the top of my right ear.
She would also never cut it short enough, so I'd start looking clownish a week after she'd cut it, and then have to risk my appendages again!
I read about this online and thought I'd give it a try and I'M SO GLAD I DID!
The box says, "You can't mess this up," and I figured if anyone could it would be me--but so far, I haven't.
You basically comb your hair and it cuts it. The adjustable trimmer keeps everything the same length and keeps you from looking like your were in a fight with Sweeney Todd.
One of the reviews here said it wasn't good for getting hair short--but I disagree--my hair was too long and this neatly cut it down to size. I've ever used it on my beard to keep it short and it's much faster than my beard trimmer!
I started out on setting 2, so it was short but not short enough that my wife would complain.
Then, yesterday, before my shower, I set it to 1 and let 'er rip. It trimmed a LOT of hair and in about two minutes my hair was very short--and even.
When my wife saw me she didn't say "What on earth did you do to your hair?!?" which she would have if she could have found any fault at all. Instead, she had me turn around, inspected me and went, "It looks good."
OK, so if a wife cannot complain about it, then you know it's good. Period.
There is ONE thing that isn't as good as it could be--the pop-out trimmer. I tried to use it around my ears and it really didn't do much. I ended up using my beard trimmer for that.
But the rest of it worked so well, so effortlessly (and quietly, it's not like some trimmers that sound like you've put a leaf blower next to your head), that I'm happy! Considering what a haircut costs, or the value of the top of an ear, this is a bargain!
Now I can use it regularly, keep my hair under control and avoid any clownish coiffure!

The first thing that you should know about this clipper is that it's called the "Shortcut" for a reason, the reason being that it only works if you want a buzz cut with your scalp showing.
The second thing is that you should read the instructions before using it. It comes with the "balding comb" attached, so if you decide to charge it and start clipping, you're going to end up with a buzz cut.
Pros:
1. It comes in an easy to open package that you won't need a chainsaw to open
2. It includes two combs, a cleaning brush, blade oil, a charging adapter and an instruction manual
3. It's compact and easy to hold
4. It doesn't come with a bunch of different sized cutter attachments, as it uses a 5 position zoom wheel to set the length of cut you need
5. It has a pop out trimmer for around the ears and neck area
6. It has a warning light to tell you when it should be recharged
Cons:
1. It takes about 16 hours for a full charge
2. As mentioned above, it comes with the balding comb already attached, and unless you read the instructions first (or this review) you won't know that the adjustable hair length settings only work with the adjustable guide comb. If you need to trim longer hair, you MUST change the comb first.
3. It doesn't work well with the adjustable guide comb. It hardly looks as though it's doing any cutting at all, but in a very short time you'll find that the hair clogs up the comb, necessitating removing the comb and cleaning it out before continuing. (The comb is curved inwards at the top, with horizontal bars, and these trap the hair, clogging the blades)
4. It takes much too long to get the job done.
5. The pop out trimmer works, but is tough on tender skin.
6. The location of the "on" button makes it much too easy for accidental starting while popping out the trimmer or changing the combs.
I wouldn't recommend this for anything longer than a buzz cut or complete hair removal. For longer hair that just needs a quick trim, there are better clippers available.

The Remington ShortCut hair clipper represents the most significant change in electric clipper design and intention ever presented by a major manufactuer. Capitalizing on the current popularity of ultra-short or bald hairstyles for men, Remington created a product that is INTENDED for the individual to be able to operate by themsleves. Lightwight, cordless, new ergonomic curved blade design, blades that cut both foward and backward, exteremly low maintainence are amoung it's revolutionary features. Cutting your hair with the ShortCut is much like brushing your hair and once you get the knack, and takes about as long. I found the results on me to be better with regard to shape (particularly in the outside corners of the head) and sharpness (less uneveness, stray hairs, etc.) than any other method of self cutting I have ever tried and SO MUCH FASTER. Fast and fun to use, it makes me want to use it more often.
Critically, I would say it's a little expensive at about $30 for the black model and $40 for the crome one. It doesn't come with a travel case which I think would be a good idea and should be included for this much money.
Still, if you're into short, uncomplicated hair cutting and doing it yourself, this is the state of the art, a quantum leap from what previously has been.
