Very nice to be headphone free Feb 27, 2010 Listening to soft, non rhythmic music is how I fall alseep but my Boyfriend doesn't like the same music to fall alseep so I couldnt play it on our CD player in the room so I had to use my ipod. Having headphones in my ears all day at work and all night... you can imagine the discomfort. With these pilllow speakers, I can hear the music from under my pillow perfectly and the quality is comparable to my headphones. And the best part? when I turn over, there are NO WIRES. The speakers slide under my pillow (inside the pillow case so they don't fall behind the bed accedentally) and the only wire connected to my ipod is on one side that keeps me from getting tangled in it, unlike those pesky headphones. I have enjoyed them so much that I am ordering one more set for my Boyfriend.
I was hesitant to buy 2 at the same time because some of the reviewers mentioned that they couldn't hear the music under thier pillow, which concerned me so I only ordered one to try out. I have a memory foam pillow and was worried I wouldnt be able to hear anything since the memory foam is thicker and heavier. I can hear everything perfectly, It may be due to the memory foam, I'm not sure, but I am happy they work! (I highly recomend the pillows from costco if you are interested in trying a memory foam pillow).
Just a side note about the free relaxation CD that comes with the product - it is very distracting and not relaxing at all. I would recomend Music to Promote Sleep by Sonicaid. I have dowloaded the MP3 album from AMAZON (cheaper that way) and I leave it on repeat all night, when I wake up to move around it lulls me back to sleep quickly.
OK Pillow Speaker But Not Durrable. Feb 20, 2010 When I first got my PillowSonic speaker it seemed to be pretty fragile. I was afraid the wire/connections would not last more than a few months. To my surprise it was almost three years before one of the speakers stopped working. I did have to sew up a hole in the outer padding to keep the Ferrite Core (that round thing on the wire) inside. I figured by keeping the core inside it would help prevent stress on the cord when the wife pulls it out of my pillow when changing sheets.
The sound is (was) good but you pretty much have to lay your ear on top of the speaker to hear at low volume. If I turn up the volume enough to hear without laying on top of the speaker it's loud enough for the wife to hear which defeats the purpose. With this in mind, two speakers are useless listening to stereo sound. I would rather have just a mono speaker so I don't hear only the left or right channel.
Now I'm looking for a more durable replacement that's still comfortable to lay on. Haven't found one yet.
Better than I thought they would be Feb 19, 2010 For some reason I thought that this pillow speaker was totally flat so that you could put your head on it without something poking into your head. When I received this and felt the two speakers I was at first disappointed, thinking that it just wouldn't work for me and would be uncomfortable. Having said that, I'm happy to report that it DOES work, and the sound is so good that it doesn't have to be directly under the head to hear quite well. I usually sleep on my stomach with my head turned to the right and put the speaker under the pillow at the edge where it doesn't interfere with my comfort. My husband can't hear it and I'm comfortable. Formerly when I would listen to the radio at night, in order not to disturb my husband, I had to make it so low that basically I couldn't hear it unless I put my head almost onto the night table where I have the radio.
I've used the other type - the hard plastic round speaker that goes under the pillow. For me, that type is completely unusable because no amount of pillow adjusting prevents me from feeling the speaker. Putting it on or along side the pillow didn't work well either. It was either so loud my husband was bothered by the the sound, or so low I couldn't hear well. This is a much better solution.
Just to be clear - the speakers in the Pillowsonic are fairly, but not completely, flat. Maybe they protrude an inch or so but because they work so well it isn't necessary to have the speaker directly under your head. And they work just as well if you sleep on your side or back.
As for the quality of sound - it's pretty good. I usually listen to talk radio and thus far I have no complaints. And when I listen to music at bedtime, it's always classical and again, thus far it's fine. This product is about helping you fall asleep - you can't nor should you expect superior tone. For my purposes, as long as I can clearly hear, I'm happy. When I want great sounding tone I listen to my stereo and that's during the day, not when it's time to go to sleep. If they hold up for even 6 months I'll be happy. Of course it would be better if they lasted for years, but from what some of you have reported, they don't last nearly that long. In the meantime I'm very pleased. I can listen comfortably to the radio at night without the sound bothering my husband. That's all I wanted.
No longer have to wear headphones to bed Feb 17, 2010 Product works as advertised. This was given to my daughter so she didn't have to wear headsets while she fell asleep. She is enjoying these very much and no longer has to worry about getting tangled in her headset while she sleeps.
review of pillowsonic stereo pillow speaker Feb 17, 2010 I purchased this pillow speaker not knowing what to expect, but far it is meeting my expectations. Haven't used it too long so I'm not sure of its longevity but so far so good. It's doing what I want in a pillow speaker.
