5Well balanced, easy-to-digest nutritional support for women  Jul 14, 2010
By Andrea L. Polk
After using this vitamin supplement for over a year, I'm sold on it. I've tried many other brands of vitamins designed specifically for women, but no others have been so easy to digest (with or without food) and so complete. Yes, they are BIG pills, but you only take one a day and can break it in half if you need to do so. Loaded with good stuff that includes a vegetable juice complex, women's nourishing blend and complete digestive support (probiotics), in addition to a well-balance multivitamin.

NOTE: This women's multivitamin is tough to beat as it's only taken once a day and maximizes many of the recommended daily values, however most women will want/need to supplement with additional calcium as that is the one area where based upon the daily recommended values, it is lacking.

Included in this multivitamin are the following: (taken directly from the product packaging)

Vitamin A, 5000 IU - 100% recommended daily value
Vitamin C, 120mg - 200%
Vitamin D, 800IU - 200%
Vitamin E, 100IU - 333%
Vitamin K, 100mcg - 125% **not found in all multivitamins.
Vitamin B-1, 25mg - 1667%
Riboflavin (B-2), 25mg - 1471%
Niacin, 25mg - 125%
Vitamin B-6, 25mg - 1250%
Folic Acid, 800mcg - 200%
Vitamin B-12, 25mcg - 417%
Biotin, 150mcg - 50%
Vitamin B-5, 25mg - 250%
Calcium, 200mg - 20% **additional supplement needed.
Iron, 6mg - 33%
Magnesium, 100mg - 25%
Zinc, 10mg - 25%
Selenium, 200mcg - 286%
Copper, 1mg - 50%
Manganese, 2mg - 100%
Chromium, 200mcg - 167%
Molybdenum, 75mcg - 100%
Choline, 20mg
Insitol, 20mg
Boron, 1mg
Citrus Bioflavonoid Complex, 25mg
Women's Nourishing Blend: 125mg which includes Dong Quai root extract, Organic Spirulina, Red Clover blossom extract.
Vegetable Juice Complex: 10mg which includes Kale, Spinach, Dandelion Greens and Beets
Complete Digestive Support: includes Protease, Amylase, Lipase, Cllulase and Lactobacilus.
Betaine HCL, 10mg

Guaranteed 100% natural, this vitamin contains no dairy/lactose, sugar, wheat, yeast or gluten.

In conclusion, this is one vitamin supplement that has made a positive difference in my life and I will continue to take it - recommending it to other women, especially those who are perimenopausal, have fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome or other energy zapping woes.

UPDATE: July 25, 2011
I did the unthinkable and tried another product for 3 months, but am now going back to Rainbow Light. The other: GNC WOMEN's Ultra Mega 90 Caplets did nothing for me in terms of energy or immune system boosting, and left me wondering why I'd paid good money for 'ultra mega'. Must have liked the name... and had a moment of weakness in the GNC store looking for Rainbow Light!

Currently I'm taking Rainbow Light Women' s Nutritional System Multivitamin Supplement Food Based Tablets 180 tablets, which has EVEN MORE of the good stuff in this vitamin with complete digestive support and 'balance and vitalizing blend'. 1200mg of Calcium...120% of your daily dose with this one means no calcium supplement needed. Higher in 'C' and some others too.

I made the shift back to Rainbow Light and don't intend to ever make the mistake of leaving them again, but chose to give this one a shot because I'm in need of the 'hormone balancing' herbs. Yes, I've hit perimenopause and according to the Rainbow Light website, this is the vitamin they recommend for me.

The upside - no stomach upset with or without food and the pills are about half the size of this one. The bad... the recommended serving per day is 6 tablets. Yes, more expensive and inconvenient, but truthfully if the 'hormone balancing' works - I'd take darn near anything 6 times a day. Right now I'm only on week 3 of taking them and not sure if they'll be better for me than 'one', but I'm optimistic. I trust the brand and the thought that goes into each formulation. If you're having similar issues go to the Rainbow Light website and take their questionare to see which formula is recommended for you.

5The BEST!  Feb 20, 2008
By Bania
These are the best ever, they actually make you feel better and with more energy. I absolutely love them and wouldn't take any other. They are all natural and have extra B vitamins as well as others. FYI, they are large pills, they don't taste the best and just a word of caution, never take them on an empty stomach, it could make you nauseous. Remember, they will make you feel wonderful for the rest of the day!!!

5The Best Vitamins  May 02, 2008
By Marinewife "Marinewife"
I have tried a lot of different multi-vitamins on the market. Many of them made me very sick even when eating food. Some other vitamins like GNC's were so hard to swallow and they tasted horrible.
Rainbow Light vitamins didn't make me feel sick at all. They aren't hard to swallow and the best part is you only have to take 1 a day. I can't say enough good things about these vitamins. I LOVE THEM!!! Both my hubby and I use them.

5Only children's multivitamin we buy - "Comprehensive, potent nutritional support"..."in bioavailable forms"  Jan 06, 2010
By Wife 'n Mom "If you spend $1 of God's money, get $2's worth."
This is the only multivitamin we buy for our child. We've been using it since he turned 2 years old; he is now 3.

This multivitamin contains NO sucrose, high-fructose corn syrup, or artificial sweeteners of any kind. It is a comprehensive supplement, containing vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, digestive enzymes, etc. I have compared this to about 5 other children's multivitamins in health food stores and to several Gummy-type vitamins in other stores and have NOT found any other complete vitamin combined with such low sugar content.

Here are the ingredients in 1 tablet and the % of daily recommended values for children under 4 years of age:

Calories 7.5
Total Carbohydrate 1.5 g < 1
Sugars 1.5 g *
Vitamin A (as 50 % Beta-Carotene, 50 % Palmitate) 2,500 IU 100%

Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B-5) 5 mg 100%

* Daily value (DV) not established. % DV based on a 2,000 calorie diet.

Note that this children's supplement contains only 1.5 gram of sugars per tablet. Compare to the following foods that I have seen children regularly consume:
GoGurt 10 gram of sugars (which contains sugar AND high-fructose corn syrup and so some contend contains more grams of sugar per ounce than Coca-Cola!)
Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Cereal Bars (fruit-filled) 13 grams of sugars
Apple juice box drink 12-13 grams of sugars
Cranberry juice cocktail (4 oz) 15 grams of sugars
Welch's Fruit Snacks (1 bag) 15 grams of sugars
Quaker Instant Oatmeal (Apple) 16 grams of sugars
Kellogg's Pop-Tarts (Blueberry, Frosted Blueberry) 16 grams of sugars
Yoplait Original yogurt 25-27 grams of sugars

So the amount of sugar in NutriStars Kid's Multivitamin is very low. Yet our child has eaten this supplement every morning, even reminding me to give him his multivitamin if I forgot to give it to him. I believe that this is because we usually do not feed him highly sweetened foods, especially not foods sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup. For example:
**We snack on apples and cheese, apples and peanut butter, yogurt and veggies, veggie chips, Triscuits and cheese, raisins and nuts, etc., NOT on Gummy products, Yoplait or Dannon yogurt, yogurt-covered fruit, or "fruit" snacks.
**We buy peanut butter made only with peanuts (no added salt or sugar) and unsweetened applesauce (made with no added sugar).
**I often make plain, lactose-free yogurt (my husband and I are lactose-intolerant), sometimes sweetened only with whole or crushed fruit or a bit of honey.
**We buy only bread (made with as much whole wheat as possible) sweetened with honey or sugar, but not with high-fructose corn syrup. I also try to make our own sandwich bread semi-regularly, using only honey as a sweetener.

But at the end of last October, we "caved" and bought lollies, Tootsie Rolls, Dots, etc. and then continued to give sweets in November and December (small am't of fruit pie, chocolate, bakery cake, or Wendy's Frosty)--not daily, but I'd say some highly sweetened item every 1-2 weeks. After routinely eating such highly sweetened foods for a couple of months, our son began to dislike the taste of the supplement a bit (but he still ate them without trouble).

So, IMHO, as long as your child is not accustomed to eating highly sugared foods such as most store-bought boxed breakfast cereals, packaged instant oatmeal, most breakfast bars, Pop-Tarts, most store-bought yogurt (Yoplait, Dannon, etc.), donuts, candy, juice cocktail drinks, soda, etc., the natural citrus flavor of this supplement should not be a problem. And we will be returning to our healthy ways of eating to get our son back on track. :-)

2Just a heads up!  Apr 20, 2011
By Amy Crandell
I ordered these vitamins through a different site after having taken the regular Rainbow Light Prenatal tablets. What I failed to realize (and I know this is my fault for not scrutinizing the ingredients) is that this formulation includes American Ginseng which is considered potentially unsafe during pregnancy when I looked it up and asked my healthcare provider. I mistakenly assumed that the organic formulation was comprised of the same ingredients but, from organic sources. I was also told during my last pregnancy not to drink a particular protein shake that contained Ginseng because of reproductive deformities that could occur in my child. There is conflicting information about the safety of this herb during pregnancy and I'm of the mind that its better to be safe than sorry. You can make your own decision. Just FYI, this formulation DOES contain American Ginseng. I will most likely NOT use this if/when I conceive.
