 Protandim is a multi-level marketing scam Feb 23, 2012

I have had my local church (the length this company will market too) recently hold a group meeting where Protandim "distributors" pitched this miracle pill. Pyramid scheme. Please look at [...] to see the truth behind this product.
Simple investigation will reveal how much of a scam this is. Here is an excerpt from the link provided above:
Since all the items that make up Protandim can be easily found online, I decided to look to see if it is a good value for the money. I found many places selling Protandim $45 for 30 pills online (or $55 at Amazon - Protandim, 30 caplets). That makes its cost about $1.50 (or more) a pill. As for the five ingredients in Protandim here's what they are, and their prices on Amazon:
Milk Thistle - Available at Amazon.com for $23.10 for 400 pills - Milk Thistle Extract, Maximum Strength, 200-Count Bottles (Pack of 2). The cost is 5.8 CENTS per pill.
Tumeric - Available at Amazon for $4.00 for 100 pills - Turmeric 720 mg 100 Caps - This works out to be 4 cents per pill. Of course you can just get this huge jar of the spice for $4 - Turmeric powder.
Green Tea - Available at Amazon for $13.29 for 250 pills - NOW Foods Green Tea Extract, 250 Capsules / 400mg - That works out to be 5.3 cents a pill. Green Tea itself (in its natural liquid form) is very cheap too.
Ashwagandha - Available at Amazon for $20.38 for 240 pills - Planetary Herbals Full Spectrum Ashwagandha (Winter Cherry) 570 mg Tablets' 120 tablets (Pack of 2) - That's the most expensive so far at 8 cents a pill.
Bacopa - I'm with you Angela when you said, "I have no idea wtf bacopa is" - However, once again pick it up at Amazon for $13.76 for 125 pills - Planetary Formulas Bacopa Extract, 225 mg, Tablets, 240 tablets - Though Amazon says the price is 6 cents a tablet, my math says it comes out to a whooping 11 cents a tablet.
(Note: All price accurate as of January 25th, 2011. Of course they will vary slightly depending when you are reading this.)
Add up all five ingredients and it comes to 34 cents. It seems like a bargain compared to $1.50 a pill right? Well, it gets better. Protandim is 675mg of a blend of the ingredients. The quantities that I mentioned above were over 2000mg of a known blend. You get three times as much product for nearly 1/5th the price! You should be able to save money over the ingredients I found, I didn't spend time searching for the best price.
So even if you believe Protandim is the Fountain of Youth, buy it the way I suggested above and you'll save more than $400 a year for the rest of you life.
Update: From a 2005 SEC filing the costs of LifeVantage to make a Protandim pill:
"Through June 30, 2005 we have paid Chemins approximately $1,200,000 for the above delivered bottles, which includes the deposit for the purchase of raw and packaging materials for a total of one million bottles of Protandim(tm)."
It costs LifeVantage $1.20 per bottle, including packaging and delivery to its warehouse. LifeVantage retails the product at $50. No wonder LifeVantage doesn't want you to make your own.
As a final note a Protandim supporter might bring up the quality of the ingredients above (in fact one person did exactly that in the comments below). This is a silly argument since we don't know the quality of the ingredients in Protandim.

I looked at the reviews for Protandim before I signed up with the company and had my first order shipped. I took the product daily for 2 months and saw absolutely no change or benefit whatsoever. I would think that a $40/month vitamin would have some results. So I decided to log in to my lifevantage account and cancel the auto-ship i had setup for the product. There is no way to cancel the order online. Yes you can make as many auto-ship orders as you want and change them but cannot cancel. You are forced to call a rep and then have to get nasty just to cancel. This is a sign of a bogus product and poor business practices. Do not trust this product or this company.

I am not a distributor, or buy the product from this distributor, just a 52 year old man that has been battling abnormal liver function results for 7 years. I was tested for everything, with negative results. I do not drink, smoke, or do any drugs. I like to eat and I am a little overweight. I have taken Protandim now for about 35 days. I went for my annual checkup and my Liver function Tests are back to normal levels for the first time in 7 years. I did not do anything different during this time. My Lipid functions also improved. From what I understand this product has specifically formulated a certain way. You may be able to buy the ingredients cheaper and take those the key is the formulation of those ingredients. I only write this to say it worked for me and maybe it will work for you. God is in control, but he provided us a brain to use for the betterment of the people. yes we will all pass a way at some time but for me I would like to be fairly healthy until that day comes for me. God bless everyone.

Protandim is literally the best thing that has happened to me. I'm 21 and a third year at a very demanding university. I have my sights on law school, and have had a great deal of apprehension about the road to getting there. Those worries(combined with a series of setbacks last year) left me with a generalized anxiety disorder. My hair was falling out from the follicle, my skin was awful and I felt nauseated more often than not. The worst symptoms by far had to be the muscle tension and tension headaches which caused me to have significant trouble concentrating and sleeping.
In an attempt to help my hair and skin condition, my mother mailed me a bottle of Protandim. She was convinced that I had hormonal issues and that this would help me. My mom is quite gullible, and has had a go at selling and using more pyramid scheme products than I feel the average american has. So I had little to no faith in trying this product, and only did so because I was at wits end.
I can't deny the results however. Within two days of taking the supplement I had NO muscle tension! It was a bit strange because I was still having the cognitive symptoms of my disorder. However, a few days later through some conscious effort, I was able to rewire my mind into thinking positively. Honestly, I was astounded. I wasn't expecting this product to work for my skin condition (which I'm not sure that it has as yet), but it did me one better and cleared up my crippling anxiety. I feel energetic and positive, and ready to tackle anything from the moment I wake up! I'm hoping this won't become a case of diminishing returns is all.

I heard about Protandim from a health podcast I was listening to. Being interested in bettering my health any way I can I decided to try it out after doing some more reading on the subject. After about two months of taking these supplements I would give it a thumbs up. Have I noticed anything spectacular? No, but I have noticed over time that I feel better, have more energy and I am better able to handle stressful situations. I think Protandim gives a huge boost to the immune system and probably does things on a deeper level to help the body that are not immediately noticeable.
When I take Protandim on a regular basis I have a better sense of well being, if that makes any sense. I do take cod liver oil and a probiotic as well, but I'm sure the Protandim works well with these supplements. I haven't had any health issues. Just improved overall health. In fact, this fall I've basically sailed through without sickness of any kind while family members and co workers are getting the usual flu and cold bugs. Protandim is definitely not cheap but I think it is worth it. I use it like most people would use a multi vitamin except I think Protandim is much more effective in protecting against illness. yes I do realize that it isn't a multi vitamin but I think that if a person decides to use this supplement, it needs to be used on a daily basis over time in order to reap the benefits, just like a multi vitamin. I still tkae my cod liver oil and probiotics because of the specific benefits they impart but for overall general health, I've scrapped my regular vitamins and have decided to use Protandim as my "multi vitamin" supplement of choice.
