5small and so so easy to keep clean  Aug 20, 2011
By rimtraveler "Calvin"
I have used Philips Sonicare elect. toothbrushes for years. This is the first toothbrush of theirs that solves my problems with the other designs. This EasyClean 500 Series has a slim compact handle--slimmer than any of the others I have used. Love it! And the best design change they made is the easy-to-clean attachment of the brush head to the handle. The brush head has a very small attachment connecting mechanism: simply a very small recess in the bottom of the brush head component that pushes onto a slim metal rod in the handle. Finally no cavities to harbor mold, grim, old toothpaste, saliva, etc. I was shocked and disgusted when I pried open the insides of my old brush head bottom--I had to use a screw driver to pop off a plastic disc up inside the old brush attachment. They should have made these changes years ago!

5Works as Advertised  Jun 20, 2011
By Penn Quaker
It is quiet compared to the OralB I had been using. It vibrates, pulsates and moves at high frequency as the videos you can see online show, Philips calls it Sonic. Every 30 seconds there is a brief pause and noise to tell you to move on to the next quarter of your teeth. After two minutes it shuts off. You get used to all of the above pretty quickly. Battery life seems long (no recollection of excessive charging). The handle/brush are long enough to get to the back teeth without any problems. The brush itself is small enough to get around to all areas. Short term quality has been good, long term is to be determined. But, if you register Philips gives you 2 1/2 years warranty which seems generous.

Clearly an upgrade from the $15-20 OralB electric toothbrush it is replacing. Lightyears ahead of a manual toothbrush. If you are in the market for a "high end electric toothbrush" seems the two real decisions are - how many bells and whistles do you want to pay for and do you go Philips or OralB. I wanted to go a step above the back and forth or round and round electric toothbrushes but didn't want to pay for all the bells and whistles that really don't help your teeth or gums. This model seems like a happy medium point. On the Philips/OralB decision, have always used the less expensive ones from OralB because of the toothbrush itself. At the higher end, one trusts the toothbrush itself on the OralB and Philips is a wash. Philips seemed to me to have more experience and more research into the mechanics at this price point and that tilted me toward the Sonicare. Would make the same decision today after using it.

All in all, nothing not to like. I would recommend this Sonicare to anyone looking.

5Great buy!  Oct 08, 2011
By SonicareUser
I had an older model Sonicare toothbrush that lasted for about 10 years. It lasted much longer than expected and it finally bit the dust. It was time to buy a new one. I didn't need all the bells and whistles that some models offer. I was just used to a vibrating toothbrush and was especially used to the quad spacer that tells you to move on to the next quadrant of teeth in your mouth. This model does all that I need and expect from a Sonicare toothbrush and I just love the slim handle and the easy to install and clean attachment that doesn't let toothpaste, saliva, water, etc. gunk up where the two parts meet. Gross! That was one thing I didn't like about the old toothbrush. I highly recommend the Sonicare EasyClean.

5For international travelers  Jul 08, 2011
By Travelers2
My family is addicted to our Sonicare toothbrushes.

On 3 different occasions, while traveling internationally, we have had our Sonicare chargers meltdown. International adapters were used each time. This year I called and talked with a Sonicare specialist. Best decision I could have made. She recommended this model and it works perfectly. Finally, we can take our Sonicare's along.

5Best Sonicare brush so far  Feb 02, 2012
By DCH
The basic Sonicare is excellent. It cleans better overall than the original design (particularly the back molars). Also, the handle is lighter, and the charger compact.

I would not pay more (let alone twice) for any of the "advanced" versions. They clean in exactly the same way as the basic model (same brush, motor, charger), but have options that are largely useless.

About the options: (a) For a softer mode, a manual brush with extra-soft bristles (like the Nimbus) is more effective and gentler on the gums, (b) for a "deeper" mode (just more time), press the button twice instead, and (c) the UV system to "sanitize" the head by killing bacteria is useless, and provides no real health benefit compared to rinsing the brush.
