Great Product; Fat Tablets Jan 07, 2008

I have been using this company's enzyme formula for about two years NOW, and it must be doing the job, because the digestive issues I'd experienced before have ceased. However, I wish I'd paid closer attention to the product description, because before I'd always gotten it in capsule form and assumed that was the only way it came. This version comes in tablets that are round and very thick, not really easy to swallow. It's my fault I admit, and it's the same great product, and I'll just have to choke 'em down, but I just wanted to advise any other prospective buyers that the capsule form goes down much easier than the tablets.

I am not to big on NOW supplements but I bought these before learning the ins and outs of the supplement world, in spite of my feeling about NOW products these work great. I have Chrohn's and its pretty bad. My food comes out the same way it goes in I know that's gross but that's Chrohn's for you and so I was vitamin deficient in D and C. Yep in a modern count scurvy still exists and I almost died from it. I started taking these after that incident and right away my food starting coming out the other end fully digested . It is very obvious to me how well these pills work because I can see it every time I go . No matter what brand or type some people are sensitive when first taking enzymes and they should empty half a pill into some juice or applesauce for a week an then take a whole pill. You cannot OD on enzymes there have been many studies showing you could consume pounds of the stuff and not OD our body is made up of enzymes.

My digestive problems started five years ago.
I was put on Nexium for a month, which worked for a while but the reflux problem started again six months later. The following year my doctor put me on Zantac, two pills daily, for three months. The reflux stopped but I now I had other gut problems, e.g., irregularity, cramps, etc. I didn't want to take any more pills so I just coped for another year until the reflux got so bad that I would wake up with a raw, burning throat. My doctor put me again on Nexium, this time 40 mg. I took the pills for a while but at this dosage the side effects were very bad and the digestive problems got worse so I took matters into my own hands and started researching the condition and learned about digestive enzymes and why one should never take proton pump inhibitors for GERD.
About a year ago I began taking NOW Super Enzymes, 1 tablet with lunch and dinner and I just couldn't believe how fast I was seeing results. The reflux stopped right away and the digestive problems resolved within a week. Regularity was again the norm, thankfully. :)
I did some more reading about enzymes and decided to try a different formulation from another brand, also sold by Amazon (Source Naturals Daily Essential Enzymes), I even put them on my Subscribe & Save, but this formula didn't work for me at all. Some of the GERD symptoms came back rather quickly and I was irregular again.
Went back to the NOW Super Enzymes and have stayed with them for well over a year now. It works amazingly well for me. Haven't been to the doctor ever since.

This product was recommended to us because of my husbands frequent heartburn. He was taking several Tums a day without relief. As soon as we received the Enzymes he started taking them as recommended and now is heartburn free. There are only occasional days in which he gets heartburn but quickly takes an Enzyme and it soon goes away. Also, very good price compared with other places I looked at. Thanks!

I am now one of the millions of people without health insurance and could no longer afford $136 a month for prescription digestive enzymes (ZenPep). I did some research and found that the expensive prescription product had the exact same enzymes you can find in over-the-counter products, just in a different ratio of amylase/lipase/protease. This is meaningless for me, since unless you eat the exact same meal three times a day, your ratio changes with every meal; carbs/fats/proteins.
I've tried several OTC brands, but NOW Super Enzymes works just as good, if not better, than the prescription product. It has even more beneficial ingredients, and it's less than 10% of the price. I am a customer for life!
I don't mind the tabs, but the smell is a bit odd. I might try the capsules next time, but either way, there is no avoiding a large tab/cap, since these are necessarily some big doses. Taken religiously, it's almost as though I don't even have pancreatitis. What a relief!
