Good magnetic pad, but probably too big to carry for most travel Aug 28, 2011

If you're reading this, you probably already have an idea what the potential benefits of a magnetic mattress pad are, so I won't bother covering that territory.
Our king size waterbed already has a top of the line, $1500 magnetic mattress pad that I dearly love. What I went looking for is a pad I could take with me on travel, or for use when we have guests stay over and we give up our waterbed to them. This pad is just about the right size for a twin bed. Perhaps just a touch narrower. The magnet strength and number of magnets is good considering the small size of the pad.
What I found, however, is that the pad is probably too bulky for most people to take along on any sort of travel. You would have to carry it in luggage, and this puppy is going to take up a serious bit of real estate in any suitcase. Could you manage it? Sure, but it will greatly reduce the space available for other things. Depending on how heavy or light you travel, this may just be too much. It is for me.
I've found it perfect for sleeping on a cot at home or the hide-a-bed, when guests stay over and oust me from my dearly beloved waterbed. In that respect, it's perfect; better than I'd anticipated. The pad is comfortable to sleep on. You don't feel little lumps as some of the more inexpensive pads inflict on you.
If you're looking at this for travel, you might want to do a little more looking around for something with a bit less bulk. If this is for primary use at home on something no larger than a twin mattress, or for those times when you, too, are kicked out of your own bed and must find accommodations elsewhere in the house (no man has ever had that happen before, right, guys?) then this puppy will fill the bill very nicely.
