4Satisfied - almost perfect  Aug 20, 2009
By Angela Lawrence "Brad"
First, thank you so much to my wife who surprised me on my birthday with this set. She is the best wife in the world!
Now to the product...........
Pros: Appearance of dumbells and stand look great, very sleek and professional. The handle grip fits perfect in the hand, nice feel. The selector slides (clicks) along with ease. Even though designed in increments of 5 lbs, you could have one side at 2.5 lbs difference, but may be little out of balance during movement.

Cons: They are little too long, makes some exercises a little awkward, but not that bad. Little concerned if they were to be dropped accidently, could damage the plastic parts. I find it annoying a little when putting the dumbells back in the tray after the exercise, your body and arms are worn out from the movements, then trying to fit the dumbells perfect in the slots can be annoying at times, but again, not that bad.

Overall very pleased and enjoying them. I have not tried the other dumbells out there currently on the market, so how these rank compared to them, not sure.

5Great choice  May 28, 2009
By R. Hatch "R. Hatch"
I am a female bodybuilder and am slowly but surely establishing my home gym. This was a big buy for me and one of the last pieces of equipment I need for my gym to be complete. I was nervous about buying after seeing so few reviews but am very pleased with it thus far. I am going to break this down into laymen's terms as far as pros and cons:

Pros:
- Comes with a stand, much easier to retrieve and adjust weights compared to them being on the floor.
- Easily adjusts to different weight settings
- Hand grip is very comfortable, especially for a smaller female hand
- Relatively quiet even though the plates are metal
- Plastic boot/bumper on stand delivered broken, called customer service and they are sending another today no hassles

Cons:
- I am concerned about the plastic adjustment lever and its ability to hold up over time
- They are big and, when doing curls, are a bit awkward (I got used to it after a couple of sets though)
- Comes in one big box, and I know the UPS delivery person was probably annoyed (could explain the damage to the box). It is a struggle to get into the house but one can break it down outside (prevents styrofoam pieces from getting all over too).

All in all a good buy. We'll see how it holds up to a female bb'ers abuse.

1Not worth the price  Jul 08, 2009
By wtconstruction
I received the dumbbells yesterday. FedEx must have dropped the box over and over again, as the cardboard exterior and foam interior were literally in pieces. The slide on one of the dumbbells was broken. However, this review is about the dumbbells, so here goes....

The slide components are plastic, and this plastic seems like it will wear down quickly and fail over time. One of the slides (the adjustment that changes the weight) was broken, and this damage seems to be more the result of a poor design and poor materials rather than the disrespectful horror of FedEx delivery. The other dumbbell is fully functional, so I studied its mechanism and found that it did not move smoothly at all times. It is a hard truth that, when lifting these dumbbells overhead, my safety is in the hands of a plastic sliding clip.

Dumbbells are made to be handled. Even with the idiocy of FedEx, the dumbbells should have been fully functional. When working out, be prepared to treat them as if they were made of glass.

I would not recommend these dumbbells to anyone that is serious about using them.

4Works well so far  Jul 20, 2009
By Jared Reynolds
My set was delivered without any problems (UPS didn't break anything, thankfully). The dumbbells are somewhat large (17" long, 5" high, and 7" wide) but not anymore so than the Bowflex SelectTechs. The stand is sturdy and it took me 15 minutes to assemble everything. Because saving space is one of the advantages of these types of dumbbells, the dimensions when fully assembled and placed on the stand are 27" long, 22" wide and about 32" tall.
The dumbbells themselves make some noise when doing curls or other movements if you do not keep them level but it does not bother me or my roommates. The handles are quite comfortable and don't scratch the hands like regular hex dumbbells. The only part of the system I am concerned with is the slide mechanism which is used to change the amount of weight used. It is plastic and does not inspire confidence as to how well it will hold up over time but for now works well. This seems to be a common failing with selectorized dumbbell sets and the other brands I tested at sears (Bowflex and Weider) have similar issues.
I've used these for a week during P90X workouts and the weight is easily changed fast enough to keep up with the program. These weights are adjustable in 2.5 lb increments, though doing so makes the dumbbell slightly off balance as the 2.5 lb weight is only added to one side. I would recommend these so far but I will update my review in a few months once I test the durability of the sliding mechanism.

Update: As of 3/6/2010 these weights are still working well for the most part. The only complaint I have with these weights is that the sliding mechanism on the handles sometimes sticks and can be finicky. Overall I am happy with the purchase but I just wish the sliding mechanism was higher quality.

3These Aren't What I Expected, but I Will Make Them Work  Jul 03, 2009
By Charles Schultz "Snoopy"
I purchased these because I was outgrowing the free weights I already have, and I was expecting these weights to be adjustable in 2.5 lb. increments. They are only adjustable in 5 lb. increments. I really wanted to be able to fine tune my weight increases, because, as one reviewer stated, especially for women, or people who are just starting out, sometimes a 5 lb. jump is too much. There is no way to know if they are adjustable in 2.5 or 5 lb. increments without ripping the box open, and no, I won't be shipping back the 140 lb. package. By the time Fed Ex delivered it, the box was already split. The other issue, which I expect to get better with use, is that I too am concerned about the plastic levers. They don't adjust particularly smoothly, and I fear they may eventually fail. I also had problems getting the dumbbells seated back in the tray (not trying to break a toe). Part of this will be adjusting to this type of dumbbell (I hope).

Anyway, it just means I will have to get stronger faster. I live in an apartment that is not very large, and a lot of sets of weights is not feasible. I liked the idea of replacing all of those weights with one set. Worse case scenario, I have enough brothers and nephews who would use them if I can't...but I am going to make these work for me! :-D Oh, and no video came with mine either, but I don't care about that.
